Youth Cross Country
Description:  (4th-6th grade) This course is intended to introduce 4th, 5th and 6th graders to the sport of Cross Country and to foster an interest and enjoyment of running on trails and in the woods. Sessions will focus on proper warm up and cool down techniques, running form, cross country running techniques, an introduction to strength and conditioning exercises for  runners and will include runs of up to two miles in length (distance may vary based on the ability of the group).
 
Description: (7th and 8th grade)  This course is intended to introduce 7th and 8th graders to the sport of Cross Country and to foster an interest and enjoyment of running on trails and in the woods.  Sessions will focus on proper warm up and cool down techniques, running form, cross country running techniques, an introduction to strength and conditioning exercises for runners and will include runs of up to 3-5 miles in length (distance may vary based on the ability of the group).  Sessions will also introduce runners to XC specific running workouts that include a focus on speed, strength, and endurance.
 
Instructor:  Ted Painter
Ted Painter is an RRCA and USATF certified running coach and Littleton High School Cross Country and Track & Field running coach (League and District champions, 3rd place State Championship finishers). He has run over 40 marathons and ultra marathons and has qualified for and ran in the last ten consecutive Boston Marathons.  https://www.facebook.com/paintermarathoncoaching
 
Location:  Fay Park/Prouty Woods Trails/Russell St. Track.  Other Littleton trails may also be used. 
 
Prerequisites:  Participants should be accustomed to a relatively active lifestyle that includes outdoor activities.  The ability to run the distances included in descriptions above will be helpful. 

Dates & Times:  2 Sessions!
Session 1:
 6 Sundays, August 30th-October 4th
4th-6th grade:  9:30-11:00
7th-8th grade:  11:30-1:00
Session 2:  6 Sundays, October 11th-November 15th
4th-6th grade:  9:30-11:00
7th-8th grade:  11:30-1:00 

Prerequisites:
Participants should be able to run/jog two-three miles without stopping.

Cost: $100 R/ $110 NR
